A lot of customers come straight out and ask: "So what are the specs on your decompression skid?"
To be honest, just looking at numbers on a page can be confusing. Inlet pressure, outlet pressure, flow range… which ones actually matter for your project? Today, let's break it all down in plain English — and show you that every single one of these parameters can be customized to fit your needs.
First, what does a decompression skid actually do?
Simply put, the natural gas that comes from a tube trailer is way too high in pressure (20–25 MPa) for anyone to use directly. The job of the decompression skid is to safely and steadily bring that high-pressure gas down to the pressure you need, while also heating it (to prevent freezing), metering it (so you know how much you're using), and odorizing it (so you can smell a leak). One skid-mounted unit does it all.
So what are the core parameters? Let's talk about them in plain language.
1. Inlet Pressure — How high of a pressure can you handle?
This one is simple. It's the pressure of the gas coming from the tube trailer. Our equipment can handle up to 25 MPa, which covers practically all tube trailers on the market.
Customizable: If your gas source pressure is different (say, 15 MPa or 20 MPa), we can optimize the design accordingly — no wasted money.
2. Outlet Pressure — How low do you need the pressure to be?
This is the most critical parameter. It determines whether your gas can be used directly. Our decompression skid uses two or three stages of pressure regulation, with an outlet pressure range from 0.01 MPa all the way up to 4.0 MPa.
· Supplying residential users? Set it to 0.2–0.4 MPa.
· Supplying an industrial kiln? Set it to 10–100 KPa.
· Supplying a CNG dispenser? Set it to 20–25 MPa.
Customizable: Whatever outlet pressure you need, we can deliver it, with accuracy controlled to within ±1%. Rock solid.
3. Flow Capacity — How much gas do you need per hour?
This parameter determines the "appetite" of your decompression skid. Our product flow range covers from 20 Nm³/h to over 3000 Nm³/h.
· A small village using a few hundred cubic meters a day? A small-flow skid is enough.
· An industrial park needing thousands of cubic meters an hour? We'll set you up with a large-flow skid.
Customizable: The flow capacity is designed entirely around your actual gas consumption. No overpaying for a skid that's too big, and no buying one that's too small.
4. Heating Method — What happens when it gets cold?
When natural gas expands during pressure reduction, it absorbs heat and the temperature drops sharply, which can cause freezing and block pipes. So heating is essential. We offer three heating methods:
· Electric heating: Suitable where a stable power supply is available. Simple to install.
· Water bath heating: Ideal for cold northern regions. Even heating, high efficiency.
· Steam heating: Suitable for factories with an existing steam pipeline — makes use of waste heat.
Customizable: Based on your local climate and energy availability, we'll help you choose the most suitable and cost-effective method.
5. Number of Regulation Trains — Worried about breakdowns?
Our standard configuration is "one duty + one standby" — one train is working, the other is on standby. If the working train has an issue, the standby one takes over immediately with zero impact on gas supply. For higher requirements, we can also do "two duty + one standby."
Customizable: The more critical your need for uninterrupted gas supply, the more trains we can configure. Can't afford even a second of downtime? Go with two duty + one standby for double the insurance.
6. Control System — How smart is it?
Our control system uses PLC fully automatic control and can run unattended. You can remotely monitor pressure, temperature, flow rate, valve status, and all other data from your phone. If the pressure goes abnormal, the system will automatically alarm or even switch over.
Customizable: The brand of the control system (Siemens, SmartGen, etc.), communication method (4G, wired, wireless), and remote monitoring features can all be configured to your requirements.
A quick table to show you the customization range:
Customization Dimension | Parameter Range |
Inlet Pressure | Up to 25 MPa |
Outlet Pressure | 0.01 MPa to 4.0 MPa (or even lower) |
Flow Capacity | 20 Nm³/h to over 3000 Nm³/h |
Heating Method | Electric heating / Water bath heating / Steam heating |
Number of Regulation Trains | One duty + one standby / Two duty + one standby |
Control System | Brand and level of intelligence are optional |
